Opened in 1894 in an old flour mill that had access to pure fresh spring water which is still used today to rinse the butter, Echiré Cooperative dairy is a leader on the quality butter market. Its browned butter, its Charentes-Poitou butter with its Appellation label, has been served at the Elysee since the time of Rene Coty (1956), in Buckingham Palace, in the Principality of Monaco and used by the Poitevin chef Joel Robuchon in his famous mashed potato. It is the only company in the world to produce butter in churns made of white teak from Vietnam. It is rot-proof and has no tanin ! In 2003 the dairy won the prize for the
best French exporter which was given by the London chamber of commerce. Moreover in Japan, its third market, the wealthy members of the Tokyo society go to the Butter House a luxury shop specializing in the butter products of Echiré.
