Classified castle Historical monument, built around 1590 by Nicolas Rapin, Grand Provost of the Connétabli of France and companion of King Henry IV, this castle is renowned for its fireplace with alchemical symbol, its Renaissance ceilings with carved stone coffers, its wood panelling from the Chambord castle with its gold-leaf golden suns from the room of King Louis XIV and the door of the cabinet of King Francis I. Fully furnished, you can admire paintings, furniture, collections and clothes of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In the 19th century, Octave de Rochebrune, born in Newfoundland, owner of the castle and famous aquafortist, obtained numerous medals in Paris for his work and embellished Newfoundland throughout his life. The famous writer Georges Simenon lived there from 1940 to 1943, during the war. This castle is private and inhabited all year round.
