The smallest municipality of Niort Agglo is named to distinguish it from that of Thorigné, close to Celles-s. -Belle. In the Middle Ages, the seigneury depended on the election of St-Jean-d'Angély, on the generality of La Rochelle and on the seigneury of Frontenay, hence a triple affiliation with the provinces of Saintonge, Aunis and Poitou, which led to complications. In 2019, the village merges with Usseau and Priaires to form the new commune of Val-du-Mignon and becomes a delegated commune whose chief town is Usseau.
Thorigny’s heart is in the church of Notre-Dame and, with the smallest number of inhabitants, forms a large family. With a focus on agriculture and livestock, the village organizes farmers' markets every summer and its country festival on the last weekend of August.
Also worth seeing: Giraud farm (gite), former water mill of the 18th century. and wood of Beaulieu.
