In 1402, Dey-Rançon, made up of several hamlets (Prin, le Petit-Breuil…), was geographically speaking the largest commune in the area. After the Revolution, the two main villages were joined together to form Deyrançon. But throughout the XIXth century there was rivalry between the inhabitants of the peaty marshes and those of the wine-growing plains. So much so that in 1903, Deyrançon was divided into Prin-Deyrançon and Le Petit Breuil-Deyrançon The latter was later attached to the neighbouring commune of Mauzé in 1971. The peaceful country town centre with its 12 km of waterways used to be well known for its wild strawberries grown on the perimeter of the peat bogs at Prin. The Romanesque church of Notre-Dame de Dey reminds us of the religious fervour of those who worked on this rich, fertile land.
