Shop news: Marine Laurent's pencil stroke!

Curiosity Jennifer - conseillère en séjours By Jennifer - conseillère en séjours, the 05 July 2019

Our winter collaborator for the Tourist Office shop is a graphic designer of Niortese origin and resident in Marseille: Marine Laurent.

The idea was born from a postcard that circulated on Niort during the fall of 2018 in our surrounding partner shops. This talented artist in her job as a graphic designer sends us by chance this montage that she created from scratch to symbolize her hometown: Niort. Its concept: use the first letter of the chosen city and drag a number of representations of the monuments of that city into it. You can discover these creations on his website by clicking here.

Marine Laurent is known for her graphic style that characterizes her. It evolves in a universe symbolizing the modern graphic creation of today. We wanted a graphic art in the spirit of the times in order to relaunch a new collection of souvenir objects. Our visitors being requests for this type of product, we had in mind to offer them a nice innovative concept on products of sure value.

Our collaboration begins in November with several telephone exchanges between Niort and Marseille. The contact goes quickly well and we are naturally looking forward to a future collaboration. This takes the form of a "working chat" before the end of the year holidays between the shop department, the communication department and the management of the Tourist Office. We exchange, debate around a first sketch. The project takes shape in our minds and the exchanges are built around a common objective: to draw the emblematic and architectural elements of the city of Niort and to imitate the Poitevin Marsh with representative elements.

The words of the graphic designer on her journey, her origins: "Originally from Niort, I took my first steps in the artistic field there, at the municipal drawing school. Today, I am a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. After completing a BTS and a DSAA in graphic design, I moved to Marseille, while keeping a strong attachment to my hometown, Niort. My visual universe is built around the world of childhood, current graphic creation and my attraction for manual practices. I like working with digital tools as well as with my hands. Illustration is for me a way to enhance, support and understand the world around us in a different way. With this in mind, I made illustrations around the cities where I had the chance to live, such as Marseille, Budapest, Glasgow and, of course, Niort. It is following this project that an idea of collaboration was born with the Tourist Office of Niort-Marais Poitevin. The desire was to symbolize graphically the different key elements of our city such as the Dungeon or the Sèvre Niortaise. This illustration was intended to be printed on different media distributed in the Tourist Offices.

At the end of February, the final illustration was delivered perfectly in line with our expectations. This will be followed by immediate use of the drawings to represent them on white mugs and black notebooks.

In the spring, they finally arrived in the store for our greatest pleasure.

We invite you to come and discover them in our two souvenir shops in Niort and Arçais. The mug is on sale at a price of 6.90 € each and the notebook is available in four colours: yellow, pink, blue and red at a price of 5.90 €.
